- 40-page printer's proof of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1 (1984)
- A printer's proof is a sample that is printed to examine the correctness of the issue before printing the entire run
- This one-of-a-kind, historical proof was found in a small print shop in Biddeford, Maine a few years after the publication of issue #1, after the Turtles had already exploded in popularity
- The men who found it traded it to Downeast Comics which operated between the years of 1986 - 1994, in Brunswick, Maine
- The owner paid for the proof with store stock and held onto it before auctioning it on Comic Link in 2020 for $12,472 with 77 bids

- 🏅 #2 on the Hot 10
- 1st appearance and origin of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Donatello, Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo
- 1st appearance of Splinter, the Turtles' mentor
- 1st appearance and death of the Shredder
- A 9.2 sold this week on Heritage for $28,800 destroying the November $11,500 record sale
- Think about that. 57 days and one sale later, the value increased $17,000!
- Now I’m sure you’re saying to yourself, “oh that’s poppycock!”
- Well no, actually, it's not poppycock!
- It’s not a fluke that just happened in this grade either
- In December, a 9.4 sold for $36,000. The previous record was $17,000 from July
- Each time one of these graded Turtles #1s sell...it throws all of the pricing logic out of whack
- Right now, the 8.5, 8.0 and 7.0 high sales are greater than the 9.0 high
- The 9.0 sold in July and the 8.5, 8.0 and 7.0 sold between August and December so this is all happening in a very short amount of time where the book doubles in value
- TMNT #1 will take some time to self-correct since it was obviously undervalued but what else can you expect from the biggest key of the Copper Age that had an initial print run of 3,000 copies?
- Chances are good that the next 9.8 sale will blow way past the $100k milestone mark for the first time

- Error edition
- The cover art seen in the image was intended for the reprint of Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1 but due to confusion on behalf of the printer, it was used for the reprint of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #4
- The title and issue number were correctly printed on the wrong cover therefore the entire print run of nearly 60,000 copies were recalled and destroyed with approximately 1,000 error copies remaining in circulation
