  • Rhodey assumes the codename War Machine
  • Prior to this this issue, War Machine was the name of the armor
  • Rhodes first wears the armor in Iron Man #284 but refers to himself as Iron Man. Prior to #284, Stark wore the War Machine armor
  • [February 2021 - Don Cheadle confirms War Machine will not only appear in Armor Wars but The Falcon and the Winter Soldier as well]
  • ✅ This was a dollar issue when first featured on Key Collector but due to the overwhelming misconception that Rhodes as War Machine first occurs in Iron Man #282, it is still often overlooked and could be found in discount bins

  • 1st appearance of the Compound Hulk, the red and green Hulks merged into one
  • 1st appearance of Kluh, a bone-colored version of Hulk created by Xemnu
  • One-page backup story featuring a Red, Green and Blue Hulk, written by Audrey Loeb, the 16-year-old daughter of Jeph Loeb

  • 1st full appearance and cover appearance of White Tiger, Ava Ayala
  • ✅ Over the past year, Ava popped up in multiple titles and joined the Daughters of Liberty in Captain America with other well-established characters leading to speculative murmurs that has driven up the price of Avengers Academy #20 but her appearance is only a cameo. Credit: Adrian S.

  • First reprint of Conan the Barbarian #1, the first appearance of Conan
  • In the letters column of this issue, there is an explanation that the artwork originally intended for this issue was lost in the mail therefore the decision was made to reprint Conan #1
  • The explanation apologizes for the misleading cover art which was meant for the new, original story and had already been printed before the mail mishap
  • ✅ This is an especially interesting first reprint due to the cover offering no indication that the interior is Conan the Barbarian #1 printed out of desperation

  • 1st full appearance of Thoth-Amon, a powerful sorcerer and the main antagonist of Conan
  • ✅ One of a few major, enduring antagonists of Conan, Thoth-Amon along with Thulsa Doom would more than likely be a part of an ongoing Conan live-action project. Credit: Tyler H.

  • Origin of Doctor Doom, specifically the forging of his armor

  • Debut of new Hercules costume, reminiscent of an Eternals costume
  • 1st cameo appearance of cosmic Zeus

  • 1st full appearance of the Gods of Olympus, reborn with new powers and character design
  • ✅ The world doesn't need another ancient version of the gods and it's quite possible that the reason for the death and rebirth of the Olympians was to lay down a primer for what's to come in the Cosmic Age of the Marvel Cinematic Universe
