  • 🏅 #10 on the Hot 10
  • 1st appearance of the Joker and the Cat, Selina Kyle, later becomes Catwoman
  • Calling this book HOT is a bit of a stretch because it's literally one-of-a-kind, the highest graded copy in existence at 9.4 with White Pages
  • Because of that, it made someone an instant multi-millionaire this week when it sold for $2.2 million dollars
  • It's difficult to put that kind of a sale into context but here’s the closest we can get. In 2013, a 9.2 sold for $567,000
  • It felt like a good opportunity to talk Batman though because you're going to be seeing A LOT of him in the coming years
  • WarnerBros has assessed their DC portfolio and decided, Batman is our dude, let's double down on him. Which is why there are 6 or 7 new Batman-related titles coming out in April
  • Also, Batman Beyond is rumored for a live-action movie, Matt Reeves' Batman is coming and the Flash will feature Michael Keaton as Batman
  • THIS WEEK’S RECORD BREAKERS:
  • Detective Comics #359 (1st Barbara Gordon Batgirl) CGC 9.8 sold for $132,000 [previous high: $18,250 in 2014] +623%
  • Batman #171 (1st Riddler Silver Age) CGC 9.4 sold for $11,400 [previous high: $8,600] +33%
  • Batman #181 (1st Poison Ivy) CGC 9.2 sold for $6,200 [previous high: $4,200] +42%
  • Batman #189 (1st Scarecrow Silver Age) CGC 9.8 sold for $21k [previous high: $15k] +42%
  • Batman #139 (1st Bat-Girl) CGC 9.4 sold for $9,900 [previous high: $5,900] +68%
  • Batman #227 (Classic Neal Adams) CGC 9.8 sold for $31,200 [previous high: $13,000] +140%
  • Whoa! Hold on. What was that? Batman #227, known for its iconic cover by Neal Adams sold for $31k this week? The previous high was $13k from 2011! That’s an $18,000 difference in price
  • Now you may be thinking this is yet another wacky sale during these wacky times but there is a reason for extreme price deviation
  • The 9.8 copy came from the Alfred Pennyworth Collection
  • You may remember the unfortunate headline from 2019 about the theft of a very premium collection of high dollar Batman comics stolen from a Florida storage unit?
  • Fortunately, the collection was recovered, named and listed for sale
  • Apparently, it is attracting a higher premium which is fitting for comic collectors who enjoy those story-within-a-story collectibles
