Cassandra Cain was created by writer Kelley Puckett and artist Damion Scott, first appearing in 'Batman #567' in 1999. She was designed to be a new Batgirl with a unique background and abilities.

Cassandra was raised by assassins and trained to be a weapon, leading to her inability to speak but possessing incredible fighting skills. She eventually became a member of the Bat-family and took on the mantle of Batgirl.
