Black Lightning was created by writer Tony Isabella and artist Trevor Von Eeden, debuting in the 1970s as one of the first African-American superheroes in mainstream comics.

Jefferson Pierce was a high school teacher and former Olympic athlete who gained the ability to generate and control electricity. He initially fought crime in Metropolis before becoming a prominent figure in the DC Universe.
