Synopsis

This issue marks the conclusion to Harvey Pekar's fascinating and illuminating biography of Robert McNeill.  With just a few weeks left in his tour of duty, nineteen-year-old McNeill's only thoughts are of escaping Vietnam's violently surrealistic landscape and returning home to the United States.  But to do so, he must stay one step ahead of the enemies who try to take his life, the depression and nihilism that permeate his camp, and the commanding officers who use every loophole they can find to keep him in the bush.
