Synopsis

It's just another quiet day in Scaulderville for Ricky the Doughnut Boy.  The Glass Bottom Bus tours the peaceful city as usual, cruising with secret hopes of finding a squashed dog, and Mel, of Mel's Donut Silo, sets out the day's special, liver and onions crullers. But the small-town calm is shattered when the merry-go-round flies of its axis and threatens the astonished townsfolk.  It careens across the landscape like a prisoner in flight, finally coming to rest in the desert outside town. Ricky would like the carousel to have escaped Scaulderville for good, but the old man who tends the ride knows better, "They'll do that sometimes, carousels.  Seen 'em do it before, and I'll see see 'em do it again.  They bolt without giving a second thought as to where it is, exactly, they're going to, and I never seen one of 'em make it yet.  Not one.  But it'll come back for good this time.  Ain't no place else for it.  No place else."
