Synopsis

GRASP OF THE KILLER CULT When a series of strange murders happen, where men with clean records suddenly strangle their victims to death, Batman is called in by Commissioner Gordon to investigate. The case also attracts the attention of Jim Corrigan, who feels a super-natural force drawing his Spectre persona. As Corrigan he tries to get in on the case, telling Gordon and Batman that all the murders are copy-cats of the Thuggies of India.   With the help of the Spectre, Batman learns that each of the men were in the military during World War II as a group called the Dirty 'Dozers, a road building crew that helped build roads in India for the war effort.   As Batman tracks down this groups meeting place as worshipers of Kali the Indian goddess, the Spectre learns that the men bulldozed over an ancient Thuggee cemetery, and have been possessed by the spirits of the men buried there. Learning the truth, the Spectre rushes back to the States where he saves Batman by posing as the goddess Kali and convincing the spirits to leave the bodies of the men.   After the battle, them men return to normal, however are fully aware of the crimes they committed while under the control of the Thuggee spirits, as such they willingly turn themselves over to the authorities hoping that justice will be fair to them.
