"America the Scorched" Famine attacks farmland in the American midwest. When the Captain's crew gets the news, they fly there in D-Man's chartered jet to fight the rampaging Horseman. Falcon and Nomad nearly fall to Famine's debilitating powers, but D-Man wrangles her robotic steed and the Captain manages to get in close with the help of an improvised shield torn from the grill of a nearby tractor. Famine and her damaged horse teleport away when the tide of the battle turns against them, but the struggle convinces Steve that he needs a proper replacement for his shield. The government's Captain America and Bucky only arrive to the scene of the crisis hours after everyone else has left. Two weeks later, Steve Rogers pays a visit to his friend Tony Stark at Stark Enterprises for a favor. Stark makes the Captain a new adamantium shield in the shape of his old one, secretly hoping this favor will encourage Steve to look the other way during Iron Man's upcoming clash with the government as part of the Armor Wars.
