Flash Comics #64 (1945)
Flash Comics #64 is an issue of the Flash Comics series from DC, released April 1, 1945. Written by Gardner Fox with artwork by Martin Naydel. This page represents the regular first-print edition.
This issue saw Gardner Fox and Joe Kubert introduce the Monocle, a new villain with a unique method of committing crimes. Jonathan Cheval was an expert in optics, who used lenses - including those in his own distinctive monocles - to focus destructive energy rays. Although stopped by Hawkman in this issue, the Monocle was set for return appearances. He became representative of "gimmick villains" a staple of the superhero genre and a common sight among colorful rogues galleries of many a popular hero.
