Rune started out life as a barbarian on the alien world of Darkur.  He slayed a dragon and ate it's flesh, hoping to gain power. He also destroyed a gem that contained a powerful being. The curse of the being, to cause suffering, fell to Rune. He also gained vampiric abilities. Story continues in Rune #7.
