Hal Jordan and Guy Gardner put their respective Green Lantern rings on the line in a fight to determine who will be earth's Green Lantern. The younger and stronger Gardner delivers a brutal beating to Jordan who appears to be going down. Unknown to Gardner, Jordan pulled a "rope-a-dope" allowing Gardner to tire himself out. Jordan then doled out his own punishment, knocking out Gardner and taking his ring from him. This story propelled Guy Gardner in a new direction, seeking out Sinestro's former yellow ring.
