The story opens with Hal Jordan taking a plane higher than anyone has before - it is a test of will. But then everything goes wrong - he starts hearing his dead father talking to him. The plane spirals earthward out of control. It ends in a collision with a giant green lantern.Hal Jordan wakes up. He's lying face down in the dirt near a highway billboard that he just flew into head first, knocking himself cold.
