Morton Clegstead is an United States politician who falls gravely ill. He re-instates an anti-Hulk program in order to get his hands on biological samples from the Hulk. Clegsted is injected with them in an attempt to cure his illness. Instead he mutates into 'The Crawling Unknown' and begins eating innocent people. The Hulk, stumbling upon the create by coincidence, tries to impale the monster with a metal pole. The item by itself does no damage but it acts a lightning rod. The energy destroys the 'Unknown'.
