Justice League Quarterly #5

Synopsis

"Be Careful What You Wish For!" "Light Housekeeping" Outside the Justice League Embassy an old man writes Ice a letter explaining how his love for her was the only thing keeping him going but now the time is past. Inside, Fire returns from her modelling in Rio and the two catch up and Ice reveals that she has been responding to the League's fan mail on their behalf; sending replies, pictures and even cheques to "worthy causes". However, an invitation for Fire to model for Meta-Sports Weekly causes her to despair when she finds out Ice declined on terms of "self-respect".  Outside, the old man gears up and laments upon his past working for an ice-based company before Fire and Ice's tied up Super, Mr. Hakim. Cleaning their room Beatriz stumbles across the old man's letters to Ice and the two disagree on how to handle the situation; Fire claiming that it is unhealthy and needs reporting, whilst Ice argues that it is only decent to help someone so sad. Beatriz decides to have a shower when a knock on the door precedes the old man breaking in wearing an ice-proof (and fire-proof) and brandishing an insulated bullet-firing gun at her but in a moment of pathos he turns the gun on himself before Ice prevents him from pulling the trigger. To atone, the duo make him clean their apartment before they turn him over to the police.  "An Old Beginning" Tuatara addresses the absent Global Guardians who walk in to find him looking into the future. They sit down and address their membership situation; the deaths of Little Mermaid,[1] the secret imprisonment and replacement of Jack O'Lantern with Marvin Noronsa,[2] the disappearance of Owl Woman,[3] and their lack of a leader. At that moment General Harjavti walks in and pleads for the Global Guardians not to leave Bialya, because of the state of the army and how the people revere them. Also, the advances of a neighbouring country, Lower Pluxa, who are threatening military and superhero action. The Global Guardians quickly find themselves in combat with The Hero Group but after trading blows, both teams realise how their leaders had gaslighted each team into believing that their country had annexed the other.
