Synopsis

The Thing is sent to the Savage Land to investigate volcanic disturbances originating from there. He teams up with Ka-Zar and Zabu to battle Volcanus, the person behind the disturbances, and defeat him.        Bashful Benjy bails out of a SHIELD Hyper-Jet over the south pole, and as he falls, flashes back to how he got into this situation.      Earlier, in the Baxter Building, Reed had called the FF together about a sequence of volcanic activity that, if allowed to continue, could conceivably destory the earth. Reed and the rest of the FF stay in New York to research, and Ben is sent to Antartica to investigate there.      After a fight with a "petra -- terrara -- petro -- a big ugly leather-winged flying whatchamacallit" during the parachute ride down, Ben ends up in the Savage Land, and in a fight with an allosaurus. Hearing the struggle from afar, Ka-zar (with Zabu) shows up to lend a hand. With the dinosaur quickly dispatched, introductions are made and Ben reveals why he's in the Savage Land. Ka-zar offers his help, and the two head for the craters. Arriving close to the volcano, they find armed men in tanks and heat suits who are obviously up to no good...
