Jonathan Wolf, Vince Grant and Breetai have returned to Tirol to try to stop General Edwards' growing control and face trial for accusations of treason, conspiracy, murder and theft; Dr. Lang and Edwards have a private meeting in which both reveal surprises; and the Sentinels, on board the Ark Angel, make plans to free Spheris but discover that they cannot use their weapons.
