A resulting accident grants one of the scientists super-powers, who then goes insane with power and renamed herself Modem. Wally, in teleporting Vanguard's helmet to the ship, brings Roxanne Wells with it.In a back-up story, a convicted criminal in an experimental space-exploration pod is attacked and then "possessed" by aliens, and then decides to return to Earth.
