Nearly two decades from now, the United States of America are no more. Instead, the North American continent is run by a provisional government implemented by the man-made mutant hunters called Sentinels. The once-respected espionage agency, S.H.I.E.L.D., has become no more than a gestapo run by a man who was once among the country's greatest enemies. The only resistance to this despotic rule are small bands of freedom fighters scattered across the once-majestic landscape. Among them is a group of people who have never stopped fighting to save a world that has brutally persecuted them--the mutants known as the X-Men! Now Magneto, the X-Men's longtime arch-foe, calls upon them for help. But why would the man who has become one of the most hated criminals on the planet reach out to those who have sworn to defeat him? Perhaps because he needs them to find the former X-Man who, it seems, has not been seen in years--the man they call Wolverine!
