⚠️ Buyer Beware: this issue suddenly went from a $4 book on eBay to a $40 issue from one day to the next with no gradual increase in price or any discernible interest
Based on similar “dark patterns” from past issues that spiked for no reason, this is potentially a case of market manipulation therefore a value adjustment will be delayed until sufficient data over a timeframe becomes available
For those determined to read the story, there is a second printing
The second comic published in the independent 'underground' genre
16-page parody of comedian Lenny Bruce and the 1964 Berkley Free Speech Movement
According to Joel Beck, the creator of the publication, the first print run was 500 copies
First printing measures 8.5 in. x 11 in.
The second printing has an orange cover and measures 6.5 in. x 8.5 in.
The third printing is white, measures 7 in. x 10 in. and was printed by Print Mint
Final EC comic published, with the exception of Mad Magazine
Considered the rarest EC publication, this issue had an extremely limited circulation of approximately 100 copies, most of which were distributed to staff and subscribers
Due to financial difficulties exacerbated by the widespread adoption of the Comics Code Authority, EC could not afford to bind (staple) the printed pages
As a result, nearly the entire print run of approximately 250,000 copies was destroyed
Although Shock Illustrated #4 was produced, it was never published until 2006, when all four issues (#1–#4) were released in a hardcover collection
First published artwork in the comic book industry by Jim Starlin in a story titled Powerman vs. the Defender
First written work in the comic book industry by Al Milgrom in a story titled Powerman vs. the Defender
Future MyComicShop.com owner Buddy Saunders provided inks and letters on the Powerman vs. the Defender story
Jim Starlin would later create Thanos in Iron Man #55 and write the Infinity Gauntlet series among many other classic works, both written and illustrated for Marvel, DC and independent publishers
Al Milgrom's role as editor and artist at Marvel defined a large part of the company's Bronze and Copper Age among other career highlights outside of Marvel
Rewritten story that was originally published in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #8 (1986) which featured a crossover from Dave Sims' Cerebus
Due to concerns that Dave Sim would not allow the Cerebus story to be reprinted, an alternate version of issue #8 was written without the character which later proved to be unnecessary
The story was released by Illusion Studio who published early Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics in Russian with additional, original content
