  • Bear witness to the changing face of the hobby as it is happening my friends
  • WandaVision was the first stride into a new era of programming that has a seemingly endless road of projects ahead, powered by the 36th largest company in the world, Walt Disney
  • If WandaVision taught us anything, it’s that Marvel Studios is not planning on pie-smashing us in the face with show after show of high-octane action. Their aim is to tell stories for everyone: comedies, action, drama, kid’s shows, sci-fi, R-rated, horror - while utilizing established characters who have been tirelessly adventuring in comics for decades
  • Is there any collectible that has as much potential as comic books?
  • Many would agree that the long term prospects are undeniable. The migration of investors into our hobby is evident in these weekly market analysis recaps
  • Investors?!...IT’S THE 90s ALL OVER AGAIN!
  • But it’s not. Not even close but that’s a whole separate topic
  • It’s not just investors or speculators that are showing interest in comics. Marvel has a rapidly expanding, global fanbase who are emotionally connected to the characters brought to life onscreen since 2008
  • EMOTIONALLY CONNECTED. This is the most critical aspect to the perseverance of the hobby
  • This is a diverse and vocal community and culture who cause Marvel-related topics to trend on social media almost daily and they don’t resemble the comic fans of yesterday
  • “But they don’t collect!”
  • Can we be sure of that?
  • On March 5th, there were twice as many sold listings of Scarlet Witch and Vision issues than on the 4th and this was AFTER many collector/speculators turned away from the books once the many theories didn’t materialize
  • While investors are driving up values on books like Ultimate Fallout #4 and New Mutants #98 anticipating future monetary returns, there is an emerging fanbase who have an emotional investment and a desire to own a representation of what is adapted into live action
  • Some of these are not the traditional first appearance key issues. These are “event” key issues like when Captain America lifted Thor’s hammer in Endgame, elevating Thor #390 from the dollar bins. And it’s still a $30 book today!
  • Many collectors will take to social to publicly shame people for how they choose to spend their own money though many of us can identify with knowingly overspending on something that is meaningful to us that others might not understand
  • Furthermore, not every comic that is purchased at top dollar is for the purpose of investing
